Eisenhower dollars, also known as Ike dollars, were minted from 1971 to 1978 in honor of President Dwight D. Eisenhower. These coins were the first dollar coins issued by the United States Mint since the Peace dollar series ended in 1935. The Eisenhower dollar is made of copper and nickel and features the profile of Eisenhower on the obverse side and an image of the Apollo 11 mission insignia on the reverse side.
The value of Eisenhower dollars can vary based on a number of factors, including the condition of the coin, the year it was minted, and any mintmarks it may have. Below is a chart that provides a general overview of the values of Eisenhower dollars based on their condition:
| Year | Condition | Value |
|---|---|---|
| 1971-1978 | Uncirculated | $2-$5 |
| 1971-1978 | Proof | $7-$15 |
| 1971-S | 40% Silver | $5-$10 |
In general, Eisenhower dollars in uncirculated condition tend to be more valuable than those that have been circulated. Proof coins, which are specially minted for collectors and have a mirror-like finish, also tend to have higher values. Additionally, Eisenhower dollars minted in 1971 with a “S” mintmark are made of 40% silver and can be worth more than their copper-nickel counterparts.
It’s important to note that the values provided in the chart are estimates and actual prices may vary depending on market conditions and collector demand. If you have Eisenhower dollars in your collection, you may want to have them appraised by a professional to get a more accurate valuation.
In conclusion, Eisenhower dollars are a unique and historically significant series of coins that can hold value for collectors. Whether you’re a seasoned numismatist or just starting out, keeping an eye on the value of your Eisenhower dollars can help you make informed decisions about buying, selling, or trading these coins.
